Starting in the 1990’s, being focused on protecting the environment, Johnson & Johnson have been able to reduce their use of water, energy and waste dramatically. The majority of all their international sites and facilities have got the ISO 14001 certification. This progress had started an even more bold and ambitious project with the name Healthy Planet 2010.
It’s bold if you look at the figures that show what’s been achieved already. Just to mention a few: their goal of 7% of carbon dioxide reduction in CO2 emissions was dwarfed by a whopping 16.8%... in 2006, 4 years ahead of schedule. In the period 2005-2010 there should have been a 10% reduction of hazardous waste...they got it in 2006, plus 2% increase of non-hazardous waste as a bonus. Another striking goal was made when 95% of the external manufacturers were working according the J&J standards by 2006, again, 4 years ahead of schedule. If there would be such a thing like a favourable interim report... this is one!
