November 1, All Saints Day and the Day of the Dead. And for sure it was a day of dead in the year 1755, counting between 60,000 and 90,000 dead bodies when an earthquake and tsunami hit the Portugese capitol of Lisbon. Estimated a ‘smashing’ 9 at the Richter Scale it also overwhelmed the coasts of Northern Africa and the whole of Europe with 20 metres high waves that even got across the Atlantic. In those days people must have felt small, vulnerable and humble. It’s like Shakespeare said in The Tempest, that got its first performance in London, today, the year 1611:... “we are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep”.
